Setting up an Envelope From Domain

Email services create a digital envelope for each email message to use for routing and delivery. The marketing sub-domain you use for your emails (like mailer.company.com) must be specially configured and authenticated to work as the From address on your envelopes.

Just like with physical mail, the Envelope From address is on the envelope only – it is separate from the Friendly From address that appears on the message itself:

Important: Your Friendly From email addresses must be set up separately.

The process is similar, but both are required for email deliverability.

This process only needs to be completed once, when first setting up your Act-On account.

SPF for Envelope From

You must enable Sender Policy Framework (SPF) for this domain to let Act-On send emails on your behalf.

Work with your mail or IT team to:

  1. Choose the sub-domain to use for the From address on your email envelopes (eg., mailer.company.com)
    • If you have multiple domains, choose the one with the healthiest email reputation
  2. Create two new records under the DNS of this sub-domain:
    1. TXT record:
      v=spf1 include:_spf.act-on.net -all
    2. MX record that points to:
      est-mta.b2b-mail.net (priority 10)
  3. Continue the process below

Important: Setup is not finished until all steps below are complete.

DKIM for Envelope From

You must enable DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) for this domain to let Act-On use it as the Envelope From on your messages.

To set up DKIM:

  1. From the Start page in Act-On, locate your Account ID (in the Account section, next to your Account Name)
  2. Work with your IT to create this CNAME entry in the DNS for your domain:
    (AOAccountID)aoauth._domainkey.(yourdomain.com)
    and point it to dkim.act-on.com
    • See Editing Your DNS to Implement DKIM for how to add the CNAME in your hosting service
    • For multiple accounts: Please use your parent account's ID for the CNAME entry on all child accounts
  3. Continue the process below

Important: Setup is not finished until all steps below are complete.
