Why is the Inactive Soft Bounce List Empty?

AUDIENCE: Administrators, Marketing Users
OBJECTIVES: Learn how to manage an empty Inactive Soft Bounce List

Act-On is able to track email addresses that continue to report as soft bounces and automatically classify them as inactive.

These soft bounces are not permanent failures like hard bounces.  The email addresses are valid; however, Act-On is unable to deliver to the inbox.  When these email addresses continue to soft bounce, they will be moved to the Inactive Soft Bounces List automatically.  If you find this list to be empty, you need to setup the default tolerance in the Bounces & Opt-Outs page.  Until a default is set, contacts will remain in the Soft Bounce list indefinitely, and the Inactive Soft Bounce List will remain empty.  There is no default value as this is a policy decision that Act-On Software believes is best made by you.

Follow the steps below to set the default number of tolerated soft bounces in your Act-On account:

  • Click Contacts > Other Lists, and choose Bounces & Opt-Outs
  • Select Soft Bounces List, and click Move to Inactive Soft Bounces after...
  • Select the number of tolerated soft bounces
  • Click Save
