Comparing Results From Messages Sent to Third-party Lists

AUDIENCE: Administrators, Marketing Users

  • Test for best-performing form results in multiple emails
  • Create different form URLs
  • Obtain the source-specific form submit URLs
You can link to an Act-On form from multiple email messages and see how many recipients of each message have viewed the form or submitted the form, even if the messages were sent from outside your Act-On account.

The following example assumes you have rented three email lists, and you wish to test two subject lines against each list to see which list and which subject generate the best response. Below are the steps to accomplish this:

  • First, create a form within Act-On.
  • Define a form 'source' for each message.
    • On the Forms page, hover over the name of the form you just created and click the drop down arrow... Choose Get Public URLs from the drop-down menu.
    • Click the New URL button near the top right corner of the page. In the Create New Usage Context URL window that appears, enter an identifier for one of the list-subject combinations you want to track, for example: List 1, subject A.
    • Click the Create button
    • Click the New URL button again, and enter another identifier, such as: List 1, subject B
    • Click the Create button
  • Get the source specific form-submit URLs.
    • Hover over the row for the source labeled 'List 1, subject A'; copy the upper of the two URLs from the highlighted row. It will look something like this:
    • Use the copied URL as the target of a link from message A to be sent by the owner of List 1
      • List 2, subject B
        List 3, subject A
        List 3, subject B
...and use those source-specific URLs in A and B messages to be sent by the owners of List 2 and List 3, too.
  • View the form report.
    • After the three list owners have sent the A and B messages to their mailing lists:
      • Click on Content and choose Forms
      • On the Forms page, hover over the name of the form, and click the drop down arrow...
      • Choose View Form Report from the drop-down menu
      • The report shows how many times the form was viewed and submitted, and how many times someone submitted the form from each message
