Previewing an Email Message Prior to Sending

Act-On allows email messages or templates to be previewed within your web browser to see what your message layout will look like for the recipient.

To preview a message:

  1. Open a new or exiting email message:
    • For email messages, navigate to Outbound New or Draft
    • For email templates, navigate to Content > Email Templates
  2. Next, ensure you are on the Review tab.
  3. Click either the HTMLText, or Mobile tab.

Preview Personalization

If your message includes personalization fields and you would like to see your message previewed as it will display for a sampling of your recipients, do the following:

  1. Open a new or exiting email message:
    • For email messages, navigate to Outbound > New or Draft
    • For email templates, navigate to Content > Email Templates
  2. Address your message.
  3. Click the Review tab.
  4. Click Sample Preview checkbox
  5. Use the drop-down menu to select a recipient to preview.
  6. You message will update to preview how your recipients will see the message.

  • It is important to remember that email clients vary wildly in terms of HTML rendering capability. While there are standards among web browser features and design support, there are no such standards for email clients.
  • Many email clients will ignore many HTML/CSS elements, resulting in a potentially subtly or substantially different appearance when your email message is rendered in that client
  • Treat the Act-On Preview function as a quick test. Remember to also check how your message looks using the Test functionality by sending actual test copies to your inbox. See the article Sending a Test Email Message for further information.
