Gated Content

Gated content is when media assets (e.g. whitepapers, case studies, eBooks) are ‘hidden’ until a user submits a form. This allows you to leverage your valuable content as a way to gather data on your prospects.

Once a prospect completes your form, they can access the gated media assets until their cookie expires. If using a dynamic form to gate your content, prospects will be shown the form on future visits until they’ve completed all your progressive profiling questions.

In an upcoming release, we will add a Grace Period feature. You will be able to set a time frame when the prospect can access gated content in a dynamic form without being shown additional questions.

New Form Composer

Attach Media Content to Your Form

  1. Open the Form Composer, select the Properties tab, and go to the Response Page section
  2. Add your redirect URL to the Response tab, then open the Gated Content tab
  3. Click the blue + icon and select one or more pieces of content

  4. Click OK to close the Response Page section

Retrieve Gated Content URLs

Please note: Gated Content URLs are different for forms embedded in Act-On landing pages than those embedded externally. Please follow the right process for your use case.

Act-On Landing Page

  1. Once you’ve completed and saved your form, embed it in an Act-On Landing Page by clicking the New Landing Page button – you will enter the Landing Page Composer

  2. On the Properties tab, scroll down to the Gated Content URLs section
  3. Locate the form and content of choice from the list of Gated Content URLs

    • If you have multiple forms on the same landing page, they will be listed in the order they were added, with each piece of associated content listed below
      Pro tip: You can also access your Gated Content URLs using the ‘Get Public URLs’ option in the Landing Page and Forms listing pages
  4. Copy the URL for the correct form and content
  5. Use this URL to link to your Gated Content

External Page

  1. Once you’ve completed and saved your Form, select the Embed tab and go to the External Pages section
  2. Follow the standard process for embedding your form on an external page, but do not declare your external domain in the External Pages slideout
  3. Instead, add the full URL path for any page that will be used to Gate Content (e.g. https://university.act-on.com/User_Guides
    • Note: Gated Content links will be generated from the URL path you provide. Be sure to add the whole thing to send your visitors to the right page.

  4. Navigate to the Gated Content URLs tab of the External Pages slideout and locate the page from the list
  5. Click the hyperlink icon and locate the URL for the relevant content

  6. Copy the URL and use it to link to your Gated Content

 


Classic Form Builder

  1. Click on Content, and click Media Library.
  2. Hover over your document or media link and click the Down Arrow > Gated Content URL.

  3. Click Add and specify the form you would like to be associated with this content
  4. Click Create
  5. A unique URL is generated which is to be used if you wish to have the content gated

Please note:

This URL is independent from the forms Public URLs and can be used only if you wish to require visitors to submit a form before being able to access the content.
