Act-On Anywhere for Outlook

AUDIENCE: Administrators, Marketing Users, Sales Users, IT/Web Developer
OBJECTIVES:

Act-On Anywhere brings the tracking power of Act-On messages to your Outlook account. Using Outlook content assist you can using prebuilt sales templates and your Act-On media assets,  without ever needing to login to Act-On.

Once your message is sent with Tracking enabled, you will be able to utilize lead scoring and segmentation like you would if the message was sent through Act-On. With notifications enabled, you will receive real-time notifications when your message has been viewed or a link has been clicked.

Minimum System Requirements
Windows
 - A standalone installation of Microsoft Office 2010 or above for Windows 7 or above
Act-On Anywhere is not compatible with the Outlook app available from the Windows/Microsoft Store or Outlook for Mac

Marketing Users


To download the .exe file, navigate to:

  • Settings > Connectors > Outlook
  • Click the download link to download the .exe file.

Sales Users


To download the .exe file, navigate to:

  • Resources > Outlook Plugin
  • Click the download link to download the .exe file.

After you have downloaded and ran the .exe file, open Microsoft Outlook and follow the steps below:

  • Click Act-On Anywhere > Manage Account.
  • Click + Account to add a new account.
  • Enter your Act-On login email and password, click Save.
  • Click on the Account Email name to activate the account.

To manage Act-On accounts associated with the Act-On Anywhere:

  • Click the + Account button and enter your Act-On account user credentials.

  • Click Save.

  • Once your account is authenticated, you will see your name appear under Account Email.

To Delete an Account

  • Click the X under Delete to remove your account.
  • Click OK to confirm.

 

  • From your Outlook account, click New E-mail.
  • Address your message and add a subject line.
  • At the bottom of the message compose window you can choose from templates and assets within your Act-On account, or compose your email as normal.
  • If you would like to record your message to Act-On, click the checkbox next to Record.
  • If you would like to be notified if the recipient has opened your message or click through any links, click the checkbox next to Notification.

At the bottom of the message compose window you will be be able to select from the images, forms, landing pages, and media currently available in your Act-On account.

Click Image and the Insert Image window will appear.

On the left side you can choose from Act-On folders that have been made available for use. Click on any of the folders to access the images or use the search box in the upper right corner to search through your image files. Once you find an image you would like to use, hover over it and you will have the option to either Insert or Copy the image location.

Click Forms and the Insert Form window will appear.

Click on any of the folders to access your form links or use the search box in the upper right corner to search through your forms. Once you find a form you would like to use, hover over it and you will have the option to either Insert or Copy the form link location.

Click Pages and the Insert Page window will appear.

On the left side you can choose from Act-On folders that have been made available for use. Click on any of the folders to access your landing page links or use the search box in the upper right corner to search through your landing pages. Once you find a landing page you would like to use, hover over it and you will have the option to either Insert or Copy the landing page link location.

Click Media and the Insert Media window will appear.

On the left side you can choose from Act-On folders that have been made available for use. Click on any of the folders to access your media links or use the search box in the upper right corner to search through your media. Once you find the media link you would like to use, hover over it and you will have the option to either Insert or Copy the media link location.

Make sure to have at least one recipient added, then click Templates.

Please note:

  • Only links added via the Act-On Anywhere will be trackable in the message, links added normally in Outlook compose window will not be trackable.
  • Because of the way Act-On tracks links, you will not be able to send tracked emails to multiple recipients at once including cc/bcc recipients. If multiple people receive the email or the email is forwarded and others click the links they will be tracked as though they were the first recipient.
  • In order to login via the Outlook Plugin, please ensure your password for Act-On does not contain any special characters. If this is currently set as a policy under your account profile, this restriction will have to be adjusted in order to use the plugin.
  • Local logs on the machine running Outlook are located here:

            AppData\Local\Acton\ActonOutlookExtension\ActonOutlookExtension.log

  • Uninstall the program file by going to the system control panel, choose Uninstall a program > click the program and select Uninstall.
  • Enter an email address to send manually versus using the drop-down cached address in Outlook  
  • If you encounter the following error when clicking to run the executable, right-click on the executable and select ‘run as administrator’. The value of the property 'type' cannot be parsed. The error is: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Office.BusinessApplications.Fba,Version14.0.0.0, Cuslture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VSTO\10.0\VSTOINstaller.exe.Config line 10)
